This is a very dirty weekend, with four films with a rating of 4 1/2 splats and above hitting cinemas across the UK. Two of them are British films: Joanna Hogg's semi-autobiographical THE SOUVENIR is an excrutiating depiction of toxic love, while Mark Jenkin's BAIT is the perfect metaphor of Brexit. BAIT British film about Cornish fishermen fending off gentrification isn't just the best film made about Brexit, it's a feat of craftsmanship.

MEMORY: THE ORIGINS OF ALIEN A detailed examination of the ideas and personalities behind Dan O'Bannon, H.R.Giger and Ridley Scott's classic 1979 sci-fi shocker is in cinemas tonight! ANIARA The social fabric on board a large spaceship headed to Mars threatens to break down following a narrowly averted space collision in this intelligent sci-fi thriller from Sweden.

ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD A story of Hollywood set in 1969 mixes elements of historical truth with fictional events and characters to epic effect, in Quentin Tarantino's latest movie.

HAIL SATAN The devil has never been this adorable before, in this documentary about a group of American progressives who appropriated the Antichrist for the libertarian crusade.

MID90S Too cool for school? Jonah Hill's directorial debut about skater boys tries to be fashionable and funny about the titular years. HOLIDAY As a young woman hangs out with her gangster boyfriend and his entourage on the Turkish coast, a mixture of sex and violence is never far away.

DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE Refrigerator. Dead rat. Dirty characters exhibit misogyny and racism in this bleak vision and slow burning, edge-of-the-seat thriller. POND LIFE A small mining village is teeming with teenage hormones, Summer dreams and real-life deceptions, in profoundly sensitive and moving drama by first-time director.

JT LEROY Kristen Stewart plays JT LeRoy's stand-in Savannah Knoop in film based on the latter's memoirs, adding yet another elusive layer of truth to the elaborate literary hoax saga.

THE THIRD WIFE Exquisite Vietnamese drama investigates a society where tradition and social expectation govern the lives of everyone, and a woman is defined by the ability to reproduce. BACK TO BERLIN Detailing the journey of 11 bikers taking the torch to the 2015 European Maccabi games in Berlin, sombre documentary remembers the Holocaust and its implications.

IN FABRIC A red dress bought from and returned to a department store wreaks a terrible fate on its serial owners in a film much stranger and more worthwhile than it sounds.
