44 music students worldwide will receive scholarships to help finance their education
MIAMI (JULY 10, 2019)—The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation® announced today the recipients of its annual Gifted Tuition Scholarship and Tuition Assistance Scholarship, which will allow 43 talented music students from diverse backgrounds with a great passion for Latin music attend some of the most prestigious universities in the world and pursue their musical dreams. The recipients join the winner of the Emilio and Gloria Estefan Scholarship Sergio De Miguel Jorquera, who last month was awarded a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston with a maximum value of $200,000.
Since its establishment five years ago, the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation has donated a remarkable $5 million USD toward scholarships, musical instrument donations, and educational events in Ibero-America.
"Latin music is as popular as it has ever been thanks to a community of talented artists, passionate fans, and a culture that keeps it going strong," said Manolo Díaz, Sr. Vice President, Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation. "We continue to work hard to accomplish our mission, and we are grateful that we are able to set our music up for a strong future thanks to the support of our donors."
Gifted Tuition Scholarship Recipients:
The
following three students will receive the Gifted Tuition Scholarship,
with a maximum value of $100,000 USD each, which will support a portion
of the tuition costs for the university or college of their choice:
- Andrés Escalona, electric bassist from Colombia
- Juan Pablo Faundez, drummer from Chile
- Juan Sebastían Malagon, flutist from Colombia
In addition, 40 students will receive the Tuition Assistance Scholarship, a one-time scholarship
with a maximum value of up to $10,000 USD, toward the tuition costs for
the university or college of their choice. Following is a list of
students who are receiving a Tuition Assistance Scholarship for 2019,
including their country of origin, principal instrument, and the college
or university they will attend.

The
2019 scholarship recipients were carefully selected by the Latin GRAMMY
Foundation's Scholarship Committee, which is tasked with meticulously
evaluating a highly competitive pool of aspiring musicians on a variety
of skills and rigorous policies developed by the Latin GRAMMY
Foundation. Additionally, the recipients of the Gifted Tuition
Scholarships and Emilio and Gloria Estefan Scholarship are required to
maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA and meet the standards of academic excellence
set forth by the Latin GRAMMY Foundation and their respective
institution to qualify for scholarship renewal during their college
tenure, which is assessed each semester.
