Ibrahim Forum: “Africa at a Tipping Point” – Palmeraie Conference Centre, Marrakech
Africa finds itself at a pivotal moment in its history. The latest Ibrahim Index of African
Governance, reviewing governance trends over the last ten years, revealed a mixed picture of a continent with real potential to spread and accelerate progress, but held back by security and rule of law threats. Most importantly, Africa could enjoy a remarkable ‘demographic dividend’ as the continent’s young population becomes an overwhelming majority. But the danger is that a majority of young people feel devoid of economic prospects and deprived of any political say in their own continent’s future. This dislocation poses a threat not only to economic prosperity, but also to democracy, stability and security. How the continent manages this tipping point will be the focus of the 2017 Ibrahim Forum.
