Madrid's Majesty A Photographer's Guide to 5 Landmarks

Royal Palace, Madrid

  • The Royal Palace: Capture the splendor of Europe’s largest functioning royal palace at the golden hour, when the setting sun bathes its façade in a warm glow, enhancing its intricate details.

  • Plaza Mayor: This grand square, framed by red brick buildings and arched walkways, offers a perfect scene for experimenting with perspectives. Early mornings here allow for clear shots without the crowds.

  • Retiro Park: A haven of tranquility in the city. The Crystal Palace, nestled among lush greenery beside a serene lake, provides a stunning contrast of nature and structure.

  • Gran Vía: For dynamic urban shots, head to Gran Vía at dusk. The street lights and neon signs illuminate the thoroughfare, capturing the city's vibrant nightlife.

  • Puerta de Alcalá: Standing majestically at the entrance to Retiro Park, this neoclassical gate is a splendid architectural subject, especially when illuminated at night.

This fancy hotel in Madrid's Salamanca neighborhood is set to be our favorite place to stay in the Spanish capital.

With its new Madrid vibe, TOTEM is a bit like walking into a private members' club. Many of the luxury rooms have wooden walls and floors that give them a sense of history.

Lucio Blázquez runs this well-known restaurant in the La Latina neighborhood.

He now lives in the building that once housed the century-old El Segoviano Inn, where Lucio worked from the age of twelve until later, he purchased the restaurant and reopened it in 1974 as Casa Lucio.

Casa Lucio, with its 19th-century tavern decor and bustling atmosphere, embodies the most traditional values of Madrid restaurants like few others.
