His estimated earnings per post reached $25,031 / £19,709 / €22,964 by the end of the group stage.

  • Gilberto Mora (Mexico, #13) and Eloy Room (Curaçao, #14) are also notable gainers in the top 20. Mora grew from 1,063,522 followers to 2,195,659 followers (+106.5%), while Room - Curaçao's goalkeeper - gained 1,091,555 followers, a rise of +1,182% from just 92,343 followers at the start.

SPOKESPERSON QUOTE

A spokesperson for MyBettingSites.co.uk comments:

“Vozinha's rise from virtual anonymity to 17 million Instagram followers in three weeks is one of the most remarkable social media stories to come out of a major football tournament in recent memory. A goalkeeper for a nation of half a million people, he gained more new followers during the group stage than Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar and Mbappé put together.

Vozinha had 31,538 Instagram followers before the World Cup kicked off. By the time the group stage ended, he had over 17 million followers - a gain of more than 54,000% in three weeks. To put that in perspective, that individual gain is larger than the combined Instagram gains of all Brazilian players added together - and Brazil finished second in the nations ranking table, with nearly 17 million new followers accumulated across their entire squad. Cape Verde top that ranking almost entirely because of Vozinha.

Some other notable gainers are Douglas Santos, a Brazilian defender, who started the group stage with 192,754 followers and finished it with over 2.5 million - a rise of nearly 1,200% that put him seventh in the overall rankings. Eloy Room, Curaçao's goalkeeper, went from 92,343 followers to over 1.1 million, a gain of more than 1,180%. Gilberto Mora, a Mexican forward, more than doubled his following from just over a million to nearly 2.2 million.

The World Cup has always made stars - these numbers show exactly how fast that can happen now.”
