Off-Duty Border Patrol Agent Renders Aid to Woman in Distress

TUCSON, Ariz. – An off-duty Tucson Sector Border Patrol agent assigned to the Three Points Sub-Station administered lifesaving assistance to a local woman in extreme distress on January 25. 

Agent Art Del Cueto was off-duty, dining at a local restaurant when he noticed an unresponsive woman experiencing difficulty breathing. 

Acting on first responder medical training he received at the Border Patrol Academy, the agent conducted an air way clearing procedure, and applied ice and cold towels to lower her body temperature.

Almost immediately, the woman regained consciousness and began to speak. 

Emergency Medical Services were called and briefed by the agent on observations made during the incident. The woman was treated on scene and taken to a local area hospital for evaluation and discharged a few hours later.

At the academy, agents receive an assortment of life saving training they can utilize anywhere.  Each agent receives Adult/Pediatric Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator training, which are refreshed throughout their career.
