The Miami Renaissance

ACCOR WELCOMES A RESURGENCE OF GUESTS TO THE MAGIC CITY

Accor, a global hospitality leader, is delighted to be welcoming guests back to Miami – a fascinating city enjoying a strong resurgence of post-Covid popularity. With mass vaccinations underway, people are keen to return to their love of travel, particularly to key domestic destinations. Miami, with its warm Florida sunshine, spectacular beaches and glamourous Latin vibe, is increasingly popular across all demographics for vacations, workcations, family trips, and weekend getaways.

“Miami is hot right now – hands down one of the most in-demand destinations
this year. The city is experiencing an influx of visitors, not just from the usual holiday-
goers, but from those looking for longer term stays as well,” said Heather McCrory, CEO,
North & Central America, Accor. “Americans who might have chosen to vacation abroad
in past years are now coming to Miami, where Accor is fortunate to have a diverse
portfolio of some of the city’s most celebrated hotels. From a South Beach trendsetter
such as the Mondrian, to the modern design and convenience offered by Pullman and
Novotel, to the newest and hippest names including SLS, Hyde, MGallery and more – we
have something for everyone.”
According to a
recent
report in TravelWeekly, Miami-area resorts
are
experiencing 80% to 90% occupancy over the weekend periods. Earlier in the year,
American Express Travel named Miami as one of the top cities where US cardholders
were booking their travel plans, a trend that is certainly continuing. This researchdovetails with Accor’s own booking data that confirms its hotels in Miami are in high
demand.
In preparation for an acceleration of travel, Accor has led the way with several
recent announcements. For instance, Accor & Ennismore have agreed to create one of
the world's largest and fastest growing lifestyle hospitality platforms, merging their
collective lifestyle brands into a single platform. This transaction is expected to be
complete around the end of July 2021 with the new Ennismore portfolio to include 13
brands - 21c Museum Hotels, 25hours, Delano, Gleneagles, Hyde, JO&JOE, Mama
Shelter, Mondrian, Morgans Originals, SLS, SO/, The Hoxton & Working From_ and
TRIBE.
Continuing the momentum, the Berkeley Park MGallery Hotel Collection swung
open its doors in April 2021. The highly-anticipated four-star boutique hotel, with a
coveted location in the Collins Park “Arts Corridor”, became Accor’s newest addition in
Miami and a flagship property for the brand in the United States. Later this year, work
will begin on Legacy Hotel & Residences – Miami’s newest mixed-use tower that will be
the first property under the Morgans Originals brand.
“Miami is an essential market for Accor – it’s home to many of our top lifestyle,
ultra-luxury, luxury, premium and collection brands – those that are fueling Accor’s
future growth and that represent the segments which are driving sixty-five percent of
project value in our global development pipeline,” said Agnès Roquefort, Chief
Development Officer, Accor. “Overall, the city has weathered the Covid-19 crisis much
better than many other tourism hotspots. The economy remains diverse and buoyant,
the area’s real estate market has been resilient and continues to show signs of strength,
and the pace of tourism recovery is encouraging. We definitely see opportunity for
further growth in Miami.”
Miami itself is ramping up for an increase in tourism as more events and
attractions return to the city throughout 2021, while vaccinations and hospitality health
and hygiene standards – such as Accor’s ALLSAFE protocols - continue to make the world
safer for travelers. The Miami Beach Polo World Cup, The Food Network & Cooking
Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival, and Miami Fashion Week all kicked off this
spring. As 2021 progresses, visitors will arrive from all over the world for the American
Black Film Festival, Miami Beach Pride and Art Basel Miami, just to name a few of the
world-class events that are set to return. Next year brings even more excitement with
Formula 1 returning to Florida for the first time since 1959. The Miami Grand Prix is
certain to stimulate the local economy and attract a glittering crowd of domestic and
international visitors in 2022.
“With its vibrant arts community, glittering nightlife and enticing culinary
experiences, the culture of Miami thrives among its glamourous and luxurious hospitality
scene – particularly in the realm of Accor’s extensive portfolio of award-winning luxuryand lifestyle properties,” added McCrory. “We are excited to deepen our roots and
continue growing in this renowned city, where the future is very bright indeed.”
Accor’s network of hotels in Miami includes properties such the SLS South Beach
