THALIA & CHRISTIAN SERRATOS JOIN VIRTUAL LATIN GRAMMY IN THE SCHOOLS™ PROGRAM, WITH MUSIC STUDENTS IN THE U.S. AND MEXICO

The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation^® and Netflix's "Selena: The Series" team up for
an educational program

 
MIAMI (DEC. 8, 2020) — The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation^® announced its third virtual Latin GRAMMY In The Schools^™ program this year, as part of their ongoing support for music education during the COVID-19 pandemic. In collaboration with Netflix and their highly-anticipated show Selena: The Series, the event will feature an educational panel and performance by Latin GRAMMY^®-nominated singer-songwriter Thalia and actress Christian Serratos, who plays Selena in in the series.
 
Before becoming the "Queen of Tejano music," Selena Quintanilla was just a young girl from Texas with big dreams and an even bigger voice. This once-in-a-lifetime experience will give music students from two schools in the U.S. and Mexico the chance to engage and learn from these accomplished artists.
 
"The Latin GRAMMY In The Schools^™ program continues to provide meaningful educational experiences for music students around the world even in these uncertain times," said Manolo Díaz, Senior Vice President of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation. "We are extremely thankful to Thalia and Netflix for this opportunity to inspire future generations of Latin music makers."
 
For the first time, the program will benefit two schools simultaneously — Escuela Secundaria 293 Dr. Enrique Beltrán in Mexico City, and West Oso High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, the high school Selena attended — with donations of musical instruments each valued at $10,000. Set for Dec. 10, 2020, at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT/12 p.m. PT, the event will be available to stream on the Latin GRAMMYs^® YouTube Channel, and will also include a Q&A moderated by Emmy award-winning television host Lili Estefan.

Latin GRAMMY In The Schools is an educational program that informs and connects music students with professionals in the Latin music industry and supports educational music departments that have financial limitations. The Foundation invites artists, professional musicians and sound engineers to visit middle and high schools, universities or music education institutions and share their personal stories and experiences that highlight the effort it takes to overcome career obstacles. The goal is for students to learn to optimize the educational opportunities presented to them, giving them an advantage and strong academic preparation to be able to compete in the industry.
 
Since 2014, more than 7,000 students have benefited from donations of more than $500,000 worth of musical instruments to schools in U.S. cities such as Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and New York, as well as internationally, in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Mexico City, Mexico; and Arecibo, Humacao and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
