TUCSON, Ariz. – A Mexican national crossed the U.S. border illegally Feb. 11 on the Tohono O’odham Nation, near the village of Vamori, and assaulted a Border Patrol agent assigned to the Three Points Station.
Agents had tracked down two men suspected of illegally entering the United States but, upon contact, one of the subjects ran. A chase ensued and, when the agent caught up with and tried to handcuff the suspect, the man became combative.
After securing the 43-year-old assailant, the agent was taken to a local hospital, treated and released. The man is currently facing charges for assault on a federal officer and immigration violations. The other suspect, also an adult Mexican male, was arrested without incident.
Customs and Border Protection welcomes assistance from the community. Citizens can report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol by calling 1-877-872-7435 toll free. All calls will be answered and remain anonymous.
