Presented in collaboration with Atlas
Gallery as part of the UK’s leading photography fair Photo London, the show
will run until 27th July and features a never-seen-before image of Queen
Elizabeth II
Known for its creative collaborations in the heart of
the capital, ME London is delighted to announce its latest art exhibit; a
curated selection of striking portraits by renowned Canadian musician and
photographer, Bryan Adams. Thirty pieces of his work are currently on show
exclusively at ME London – the vibrant cultural hub in Covent Garden,
set on the site of the first BBC radio broadcast – to mark the landmark
tenth edition of Photo London
at Somerset House. The exhibition is presented by Atlas Gallery and curated by A Space for
Art and Anke Degenhard from Crossover.
Since the late 1990s, self-taught photographer Adams
has combined his rock career with his passion for photography, first
documenting his own work on tour before turning professional – and has
since captured some of the most revered musicians, models, and political
figures, not to mention the British Royal family. The centrepiece of the exhibition, which launched
on Thursday 15 May and will run until Sunday 27 July, is a platinum print of the late Elizabeth II,
titled ‘HM The Queen, Wellington Boots’, which Adams shot in 2001 at Buckingham
Palace. Placed at the entrance of the lobby, the portrait welcomes visitors
to the hotel and is exhibited away from the rest of Adams’ work, allowing
guests to truly experience a moment of reflection.
#SHOTBYADAMS features a number
of his other iconic black-and-white portraits, including Kate Moss, Amy
Winehouse, and Victoria Beckham, as well as previously unseen works. Notably,
the series features newer pieces from Adams' innovative ‘In Colour’ exhibition,
inspired by ‘rose-tinted glasses’ and the idea of viewing life through a
different lens, where he incorporates multi-colored plexiglass overlays on the
photographs. This adds depth and a sense of distance to the portraits, and a
distinct, dream-like quality to his range of subjects, from Sir Mick Jagger to
Tina Turner, and Robbie Williams to Avril Lavigne.
A vibrant cultural hub connecting guests with the
local creative scene, ME is located steps from museums, theatres, and landmarks
in London’s west end, and boasts the iconic rooftop restaurant and bar, Radio
Rooftop.
#SHOTBYADAMS x Photo London is running from 15th May – 27th
July at ME London Hotel. Please find imagery from the launch event on 14th
May HERE.
